A big part of Europe’s ambitious recycling plans has gone missing.

Every year, only about two-thirds of the 10 million end-of-life cars in Europe are recorded as having been deregistered and scrapped. The rest disappear, according to a European Commission report published this week.

Car thieves go green: More electric and hybrid vehicles are stolen

The theft of electric cars is soaring and a total of 80 electric vehicles have been stolen so far this year, the car crime watchdog AVC said on Friday. Just 31 were taken in the first three months of last year, the organisation said.

Theft of keyless Ford Fiestas soar as crooks use electronic devices from eBay to break in.

Britain's best-selling car – the Ford Fiesta – is being targeted by thieves who can override the keyless entry system using a £260 device available on eBay.
